Sonrise Honors: A Letter from Meals on Wheels

April 21, 2025

Dear Sonrise Church Family,

As most of you know, for the past nearly seven years, Sonrise Church has partnered with Meals on Wheels People by allowing us the space we needed to provide nutritious meals to hundreds of seniors in our community. The support given to us by staff and church members has been invaluable.

Recently, as the manager of this center, I was informed of some necessary changes to our organization, and I want to share those with you all.

Due to rising food and staffing costs, the loss of COVID-19 funding, and the need to operate more efficiently, Meals on Wheels People is consolidating certain meal services to ensure we are meeting the needs of our meal recipients. The on-site dining program at Hillsboro remains small, despite targeted outreach efforts. As a result, this center will cease operations and close by the end of April. Our home-delivery participants will see little to no interruption to their service, and their meals will be delivered by other Washington County centers beginning Monday, April 21.

While church leadership was disappointed to hear the news, let me assure you: This is the right decision, and I wholeheartedly support this. This is all about being good stewards of the resources we have so we can put our participants first.

I want to truly thank you for all your support over the years. I am grateful for it and for you. It has been a joy to serve in this capacity from my own church. I wish you all well, and I will see you on Sundays.

Gratefully,

Gloria Cox
